Left Turn on Red?

Sun, Apr 30, 2017

Here’s something I’ve never seen before:  permission to turn left at a red light after a stop.

This makes perfect since to me since Victoria’s streets are narrow and there’s very little room for left or right turn lanes.  Traffic stacks up in a hurry.

Imagine a scenario where you are approaching a traffic signal for a left turn.  The light turns red and there’s no oncoming traffic.  If you wait out the red, oncoming traffic may build and you may find yourself sitting through the green and not turning left until the yellow.  And that means that no one behind you would have gotten through the intersection during the light cycle.  Ouch!
